Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan (1986—) actress, singer and model. Known for films such as Freaky Friday and Mean Girls, Lohan made headlines in 2008 when she went to a Miami emergency room suffering from an acute asthma attack. High humidity apparently precipitated the attack, but it was by no means her first. According to her mother, Lindsay was diagnosed with bronchial asthma when she was two.
In 2004 she suffered a series of asthma attacks due, she said, to “over-scheduling myself and not taking time for myself.” Then in 2006 she actually ruptured an artery in her neck during a severe attack, also in Florida, and was so frightened that she had the word “breathe” tattooed on her wrist once she was released from hospital. However, the experience didn’t persuade her to stop smoking—a dangerous
habit indeed for asthmatics.
High humidity, thunderstorms, and abrupt changes in the weather are all well-known triggers of asthma attacks. Tobacco smoke, including second-hand smoke, is an even more powerful trigger and can make asthma harder to control with medication. If coughing is severe, it can create enough pressure in the abdomen and chest to crack a rib or two; ruptured neck vessels are less common.
