Motion Sickness treatment

Description

Motion sickness is a common occurrence which nearly 80% of all people encounter. When a loss of balance occurs, people experience a dizzying feeling from the unease of motion. It is most common in young childhood, and most grow out of it by age three.

Causes

Motion sickness may be caused by throwing balance of the vestibular system and sensory organs off, or when skin receptors register one thing while actually encountering another. Inner ear is affected, which controls and regulates balance. Fear, anxiety, fumes or other odd smells may also trigger motion sickness.

Prevention

Sit in front seat of the vehicle, don’t read while in a moving vehicle, avoid greasy meals and alcohol, avoid salty foods and dairy products. It is actually best not to eat at all prior to a long car trip.

Common Symptoms

Nausea, paleness of skin pigmentation, vomiting, cold sweats, drowsiness, vertigo, feeling of ill.

Rare Symptoms

Prolonged land sickness.

Traditional Treatment

Lookng out of moving vehicle while in motion, closing the eyes or taking a nap, chewing, and medications (both over the counter and prescription) may relieve motion sickness symptoms.

Alternative Treatment

Anti-static strips for car, acupuncture, dietary supplements, exercise, and breathing techniques.
