Trauma Recovery treatment

Description

Trauma is seen as an extreme shift from a person's normal living standards. It affects all aspects of life, including how one makes decisions and interacts with others. This may cause dysfunctions in daily routine and develop into disorders. Trauma can occur at any age and sometimes begins in early childhood.

Causes

Trauma may be caused by disastrous life events, including war service, rape, automobile accidents, other near-death experiences, loss of family and friends, stressful events, various forms of violence and abuse, and several other reasons.

Prevention

To prevent physical injury and trauma, education involving increasing safety standards and practicing the safe use of automobile, boat, etc. is employed. Safety restraint usage is encouraged. Safety is the best form of accident and trauma prevention.

Common Symptoms

Common symptoms of trauma include depression, anxiety, decreased self esteem and energy, anger, general loss of appetite, eating disorders, sexual dysfunction, insomnia, flashbacks, development of addictions, and several other noticeable changes in demeanor and character.

Rare Symptoms

Rare symptoms of trauma are individual to the exact form of trauma being suffered. For example, a rape victim can experience gastrointestinal irritability and muscle tension. A war veteran may experience hypervigilance and severe panic attacks.

Traditional Treatment

Prescribed medication, physical and psychological therapy, support groups, behavioral or cognitive behavioral therapy, tension and trauma releasing exercises (TRE), family and marital counseling.

Alternative Treatment

Hypnosis, dietary alterations, spiritual or religious counseling.
