The generic name of this medication is tazarotene and brand names are Avage, Tazorac.

The active ingredient of this medication is tazarotene. Inactive ingredients of this medication are Carbomer 934P, carbomer 1342, edetate disodium, medium chain triglycerides, mineral oil, purified water, sodium thiosulfate, sorbitan monooleate and sodium hydroxide to adjust the pH.

Used in the treatment of psoriasis, acne, and sun damaged skin (photodamage). It contains tazarotene which is like vitamin A. It helps the skin to renew itself quickly and could improve the appearance and texture of skin.

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Itching;
Redness;
Irritation;
Burning/stinging;
Scaling;
Dry skin or pain at application site.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Other skin conditions like eczema, sunburn, and sun sensitivity problems.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women; women who are planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
A thiazide diuretic such as hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, HydroDiuril, Esidrix, Microzide, Oretic), chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Hygroton, Thalitone);

A tetracycline antibiotic such as tetracycline (Sumycin, Panmycin, Robitet, others), minocycline (Dynacin, Minocin, Vectrin);

A fluoroquinolone antibiotic such as lomefloxacin (Maxaquin), sparfloxacin (Zagam);

A phenothiazine such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), prochlorperazine (Compazine).
