Warnings
The generic name of this medication is warfarin and brand name is Coumadin.
The active ingredient of this medication is warfarin sodium.
This medication is used to treat blood clots like deep vein thrombosis-DVT or pulmonary embolus-PE, and/or to prevent new clots from forming in the body.
Common Uses:
This medication is used to treat blood clots like deep vein thrombosis-DVT or pulmonary embolus-PE, and/or to prevent new clots from forming in the body.
Off Label Uses:
None noted currently.
Side Effects:
Nausea;
Loss of appetite;
Abdominal discomfort/pain.
Cautions / Warnings:
Not recommended in patients with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Bleeding disorders like hemophilia;
Liver disorders;
Alcohol use/abuse;
Mental/mood disorders;
Recent major injury/surgery;
Blood vessel disorders like aneurysms;
Blood conditions like anemia; and polycythemia;
Congestive heart failure;
Thyroid problems.
It is also not recommended in pregnant women; women planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.
Drug Interactions:
Imatinib;
Mifepristone;
Aspirin and aspirin-like drugs (salicylates);
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, Naproxen, celecoxib).
