The active ingredient of this medication is Entecavir.

Mainly used to treat chronic hepatitis B. It also helps prevent the hepatitis B virus from multiplying and infecting new liver cells.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat chronic hepatitis B. It also helps prevent the hepatitis B virus from multiplying and infecting new liver cells.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Muscle pain or weakness.
Numb or cold feeling in the arms and legs.
Trouble breathing.
Feeling dizzy, light-headed, tired or very weak.
Stomach pain, nausea with vomiting.
Slow or uneven heart rate.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in patients with the following conditions:
If allergic to entecavir.
If patient has HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) that is not being treated.
If there is kidney disease.
If there is liver disease.
During pregnancy and pre-pregnancy.

Drug Interactions:
Drugs that weaken the immune system (such as cancer medicine or steroids).
Amphotericin B (Fungizone, AmBisome, Amphotec, Abelcet).
Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune, Gengraf).
Pentamidine (Nebupent, Pentam).
Sirolimus (Rapamune), tacrolimus (Prograf).
Antibiotics such as capreomycin (Capastat), rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifater), vancomycin (Vancocin, Vancoled).

About Entecavir

Entecavir (INN) (IPA: ) is an oral antiviral drug used in the treatment of hepatitis B infection. It is marketed under the trade name Baraclude (BMS).

Entecavir is a guanine analogue that inhibits all three steps in the viral replication process, and the manufacturer claims that it is more efficacious than previous agents used to treat hepatitis B (lamivudine and adefovir). It was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in March 2005.
