Glaucoma treatment

Description
Glaucoma is an eye condition that causes damage to the optic nerve which carries visual information from the eye to the brain. Damage to the optic nerve is caused by increased pressure in the eye known as intraocular pressure or IOP. Glaucoma can occur at any age even in newborn babies and is most commonly seen in African-Americans.
Causes
A clear fluid called the aqueous humor is continously made behind iris and fills the front of th eye. As the fluid fills the front of the eye it exits through channels. When the the fluid is blocked from flowing out of the eye, pressure builds up in the eye. Congenital glaucoma is caused by abnormal eye development.
Common Symptoms
Symptoms of Glaucoma depends on the type of Glaucoma a person has. With open-angle (chronic) glaucoma, there are no symptoms besides vision loss. With angle-closure (acute) glaucoma, symptoms include: sudden and severe eye pain, blurred vision, nausea/vomiting, redness of the eye, eye feeling swollen, and seeing colored rings aroung lights.
