Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) treatment

Description
COPD is a progressive illness that makes it hard to breathe with limited flow of oxygen into the blood stream. With emphysema, the lungs become damaged causing them to lose their stretch reducing lung capacity and this in turn restricts air flow. Chronic bronchitis occurs when the bronchial tubes become inflamed which causes thick mucus to develop and the lungs do not get enough oxygen.
Causes
smoking and long term exposure to second hand smoke, air pollution, and chemical fume
Prevention
Give up smoking and avoid being around second-hand smoke as well as other environmental pollutants and fumes, regular exercise and a health diet
Common Symptoms
wheezing, shortness of breath upon exertion and in more severe cases while at rest, fatigue and respiratory or lung infections, persistent mucous-filled cough
Rare Symptoms
Severe pulmonary hypertension
Traditional Treatment
bronchodilators, corticosteroids, antibiotics, daliresp, flu or pneumonia vaccines, pulmonary rehabilitation, oxygen therapy, lung volume reduction surgery, lung transplant, bullectomy
Alternative Treatment
