The generic name of this medication is phentermine and brand names are Adipex-P, Fastin, Ionamin, Obenix, Obephen, Oby-Cap, Oby-Trim, Panshape M, Phentercot, Phentride, Pro-Fast HS, Pro-Fast SA, Pro-Fast SR, Teramine and Zantryl.

Adipex is manufactured by Gate Pharmaceuticals.

The active ingredients of this medication are arephentermine hydrochloride and dimethylphenylethylamine.

Mainly used to treat obesity in patients with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat obesity in patients with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Chest pain, swelling in your ankles or feet, feeling light-headed, fainting or feeling shortness of breath with mild exertion.
Fast or uneven heartbeat.
Unusual thoughts or behavior, feeling restless or confused.
Increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure).

Cautions / Warnings:

Not advisable in patients allergic to this medicine.
Not advisable in patients with heart disease, high blood pressure,
arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), overactive thyroid, other problems with thyroid, glaucoma, anxiety disorder, epilepsy, other seizure disorders or
diabetes.

Drug Interactions:
Medicines to treat high blood pressure.
Insulin or diabetes medication taken orally.
Guanadrel (Hylorel), guanethidine (Ismelin).
Antidepressants such as citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), or sertraline (Zoloft).
Antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), amoxapine (Ascendin), clomipramine (Anafranil), desipramine (Norpramin), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil).

with adipex I lost over 30lbs and kept them off I took the pill every day for 4 months then went down to one every other day for 1 year then one tab once a week for 2 years now but I not only relaid on the medicine to lose weight I also learned how to eat and did lots of different activities

I love the medication because it gives me the energy to get through my day. Without it I would be on the couch for most of the day with no desire to get up and do anything.
