My doctor has had me try several different medicines for Bi-Polar disorder. We settled on Depakote because it seemed to do an adequate job with fewer side effects than the other medicines. It seems that since I have been taking it, I have started having more side effects. I have extreme hair loss (although it does grow back) and kidney pain. I have a constant fatigue. It has not made me feel better or "normal".

I can't imagine taking this for another 4 years. It was hard enough to get through cancer treatments, but to have to deal with this on top of all that is unconceivable. Trying to keep my vigor and conviction to heal, but without sleep and so much pain it is difficult to say the least. I was in really bad pain, upper arms, wrists, knees, lower back & upper back (basically wherever I had hurt myself in the past). The doctor lowered my dosage, those pains went away, but now my mouth hurts, teeth, gums, etc. and my heart just started having weird rhythm and palpatations. My mouth hurts so bad, like the worst toothache you could ever have.

Update. The worry over Lantus is over for me. I tried Levemir for a couple of months, before switching back to Lantus as it made no difference to the pain. Then I had a diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) a few weeks ago. This was after several visits to my doctor and a rheumatologist, blood tests and a radiological bone scan. I'm now on a lowish dose of prednisolone (10mg/day), with calcium (800mg/day) and alendronic acid (70mg once per week) to protect my bones from the steroid. Most... View full comment

I've been on it only 4 days and i'm having major memory problems. I cant remember where things are, who people are what I need to do. I cant focus, concentrate or accomplish anything. It's very scary, like i'm looking at me from the outside. Its causing a lot of anxiety and panic. I'm only on 25 mg.
