The generic name of this medication is erythromycin-benzoyl peroxide and brand name is Benzamycin.

The active ingredient of this medication is erythromycin-benzoyl peroxide.

This medication is used on the skin to treat moderate-to-severe acne.

Common Uses:

This medication is used on the skin to treat moderate-to-severe acne.

Off Label Uses:

Helps new skin to form as old skin flakes off.

Side Effects:
Skin irritation
Dryness
Peeling
Itching
Burning feeling
Redness
Puffiness and other skin effects

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in patients with the following conditions:
If patient is allergic to either of these medications or to other macrolide antibiotics (e.g. clarithromycin).
During pregnancy and pre-pregnancy.
This drug may bleach hair or colored fabric (e.g. clothing, bedding and towels). Use caution when applying near the hairline, while dressing and while choosing towel and bed sheet colors (if leaving on the skin overnight).

Drug Interactions:
Medicated soaps or cosmetic products containing alcohol (e.g. aftershave lotion), other acne skin treatments (e.g. tretinoin).

28 Jun 2010	Benzamycin greatly aided in clearing up my acne, but in the long run, it made my skin very dry and irritated. I had to discontinue using it. With a moisturizer, my skin still suffered. 01 Jun 2010	Benzamycin contains benzoyl peroxide so it is quite effective in treating acne. However, the longer I used it, the dryer my skin became. I even used moisturizers and went down from two applications a day to just one. Eventually, I just had to stop taking it. 24 May 2010	Benzamycin was great in fighting my acne and clearing up my complexion. However, after a couple of weeks my skin began to get very dry and irritated in certain areas. I even use a moisturizer but the chemicals are too hard on my skin. I may just have sensitive skin. 06 May 2010	Benzamycin works great on clearing up acne. It is much better than using OTC drugs and creams. Although it must be prescribed by a doctor or dermatologist and can be pricey, it is very much worth it.
