My doctor recommended Lantus. It is more expensive and less effective than the NPH I was taking. I was on 2 injections per day before Lanus. Now I have to take short acting insulin before each mean and Lantus before bed. I feel like a pin cushion and my blood sugars are no better. Taking the extra insulin has caused weight gain. Started taking Topamax on vacation to gradually get up to full dose. Went very slowly--got to full dosage at about 4 weeks. I lost weight, but tried to stick with it because the migraines were so bad, but it only reduced them a little bit. At around the 4-5 week mark I was sitting in my living room feeling semi-suicidal and decided I should read the fine print on the side effects. Started taking when after coming back from a trip had a severe pain in my arm doctor stated it was arthitiis to take antiinflamatories a friend recommended the glocosamine and I started taking it the pain disappeares and has never come back.
