If you are in severe pain, I really didn't feel any effects. After surgery and a good bit of pain was removed, I found out that tizanidine is rather powerful. I usually take a small amount, 2mg per day, until my pain rises, then I take as needed up to maximum dose. I know when to drop the dosage when I feel like par-boiled chicken and my muscles feel like they're going to fall off my bones. That is one strange feeling. Six weeks with a Chinese MD acupucturist/herbalist drastically reduced my rapid heart rate, shakes and in general improved symptoms. If you can find a good Chinese-trained one, try acupuncture. Its not a cure but may be good for symptom control. Research at Harvard has shown it is effective for womens hormone problems and back pain.

Takes a while to have an effect, which is rough. But for me, once it did I just felt normal. I don't feel different, "high," "flat," or anything else. I just am not depressed - which is wonderful. It also had the unexpected side effect of greatly reducing my fear of flying.

From all the medications I took, this is the only one that could help me cure to my flu, and I would recommend it to anybody who has flu. Concerning the side-effects, I think it depends on each individual. For me, I didn't have that much complications.
