Warnings
The generic name of this medication are hydrochlorothiazide and irbesartan and the brand name is Avalide.
The active ingredients of this medication are hydrochlorothiazide and irbesartan. The inactive ingredients include Inactive ingredients include: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, croscarmellose sodium, ferric oxide red, ferric oxide yellow, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate. In addition, the 300/25 mg pink film-coated tablet contains ferric oxide black, hypromellose-2910, PEG-3350, titanium dioxide, and carnauba wax.
It is manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Avalide is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
Common Uses:
Avalide is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
Off Label Uses:
None noted currently.
Side Effects:
Feeling like you might pass out;
Chest pain, feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion;
Fever;
Swelling, rapid weight gain;
Urinating more or less than usual, or not at all;
Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
Dry mouth, increased thirst, drowsiness, restless feeling, confusion, increased urination, fast heart rate, feeling light-headed, fainting, or seizure (convulsions).
Cautions / Warnings:
Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Kidney disease;
Liver disease;
Low or high levels of potassium in the blood;
Asthma or allergies.
It is also not recommended in pregnant women; women who are planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.
Drug Interactions:
Any other blood pressure medications;
Steroids (prednisone and others);
Lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid);
Cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran) or colestipol (Colestid);
Insulin or diabetes medicine you take by mouth;
A barbiturate such as amobarbital (Amytal), butabarbital (Butisol), mephobarbital (Mebaral), secobarbital (Seconal), or phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton);
Any other diuretics, such as amiloride (Midamor), bumetanide (Bumex), chlorthalidone (Hygroton, Thalitone), ethacrynic acid (Edecrin), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, HydroDiuril), indapamide (Lozol), metolazone (Mykrox, Zarxolyn), spironolactone (Aldactone), triamterene (Dyrenium, Maxzide, Dyazide), torsemide (Demadex), and others;
Aspirin or other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), etodolac (Lodine), indomethacin (Indocin), ketoprofen (Orudis), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), and others.

was on monopril for over 15 years. Must have become immuned because my pressure was not controled any more. Doctor put me on it 3 months ago and my pressure is best it has been.
