Diovan is the brand name and the generic name of this medication is valsartan, which is also the active ingredient.

The inactive ingredients of Diovan are colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, iron oxides, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol 8000, and titanium dioxide.

Diovan is commonly used to treat conditions related to the cardiovascular system, such as high blood pressure and congestive heart failure.

This medication functions by blocking angiotensin (hormone) in turn relaxes the blood vessels, thereby dialating them. This belongs to a group of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers.

About Valsartan
Valsartan (trade name Diovan) is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, acting on the AT1 subtype. In the U.S., valsartan is indicated for treatment of high blood pressure, of congestive heart failure (CHF), and post-myocardial infarction (MI).
