When I get the flu, I usually try a few over the counter medicines before going to see the doctor. I've tried sudafed in the past and it works ok, but it usually makes me really drowsy. If it makes me too drowsy, I will usually switch to another cold/flu medication.

My aunt (in her late 50s) took Zyrtec for a short time 3 yrs ago. She said it worked well but she lost her sense of taste - nothing for 3 yrs. I guess there's no way to fix this - has anyone heard of a way to fix this?

Changing to this synthetic analogue, described to me as "the greatest thing for Type 1 diabetics" by my diabetic team was a decision I now deeply regret. I had really bad hives last month and was prescribed Zantac to prevent the spread. It was very effective but I had to take it once a day for 10 days along with another medication. By the eighth day, my hives were completely gone.
