I too am hyperthyroid. I was prescribed carbimazole and had an allergic reaction with a skin rash which erupted within days. I then was prescribed PTU, propylithouacil which I initially took at a very high dosage, namely 12 tablets/day and after several weeks lost my taste completely and had bad headaches. My consultant reduced the dosage to two/day after 2 months as I had gone underactive. I gradually regained my taste but then developed pains in my arms so bad I couldn't sleep on my sides... It was a great drug in the beginning, but later the side effects are very severe would not recommend. I had shortness of breath and chest pains, and I would work out everyday. I stopped the pills and after a week of not taking them I felt a lot better.
