Isotretinoin is the generic name and it is manufactured and sold under the brand names: Accutane, Sotret, Claravis, Amnesteem. It is used in the treatment of extreme cases of nodular acne where other forms of treatment including antibiotics have failed.

It belongs to a group of medications referred to as retinoids. It functions by inhibiting the production of varopis natural elements that can give rise to pimples.

The inactive ingredients of isotretinoin are beeswax, butylated hydroxyanisole, edetate disodium.

It is available in tablet form and needs to be administered orally.

It is a retinoid i.e. it is derived from vitamin A and is found in small quantities naturally in the body. Oral isotretinoin is marketed under various trade names, most commonly Accutane (Roche), Amnesteem (Mylan), Claravis (Barr), Sotret (Ranbaxy), or Roaccutane (Roche) or NetLook (Delta Pharma) while topical isotretinoin is most commonly marketed under the trade names Isotrex or Isotrexin (Stiefel).
